How the tools reach a result
Each live tool checks the facts you enter against a defined ruleset for the tax year or subject shown on the page. The result explains why an item is included and what facts could change it. It is designed to help you prepare for the next step, not to replace individual professional judgment.
The tools do not use a language model to create a tax conclusion. OpenAI-assisted search may help match a general question to an existing US Expat Desk tool. It does not write a result, decide what applies to you, or publish Country Watch updates.
Official sources, dates and changes
Every live tool links to the official source or sources behind its rules. The result identifies the tax year or ruleset, assumptions, source retrieval date and review date. We do not change a review date simply to make a page look current.
When a source or rule changes, we review the effect on the relevant tool before updating its logic or copy. Tool pages record their version and date so you can see the basis of the result you received.
How Country Watch is reviewed
Country Watch follows selected official U.S. and local-country sources for the countries shown on its coverage page. It keeps U.S. federal guidance separate from local-country changes. A published update identifies its source and, where available, its publication date, effective date and status.
Country Watch is reviewed before publication. It is not a real-time or exhaustive monitoring service, and it does not decide your personal tax, residency, immigration or benefits position. A source that cannot be reached is recorded as limited access, not treated as proof that nothing changed.
Privacy boundaries
You can use the free tools without an account. Do not enter a Social Security number, bank login, full account number, passport number or tax return. Optional saved workspace features are controlled by you and are governed by the Privacy Notice.
We use only the information needed for the question or workspace feature you choose. A feedback form is available after a completed tool result, but it asks for product feedback only. It must not be used to send tax documents or sensitive identifiers.
When to get professional help
International tax and residency questions can depend on facts that a short tool cannot safely resolve. If you have a complex ownership structure, prior filing issues, a treaty question, a citizenship or immigration decision, or a large financial consequence, use the official source and speak with a qualified adviser before acting.
