How many days are between two dates?
This calculator counts the calendar days between two dates. Enter a start date and an end date in MM/DD/YYYY format and you get the number of days between them, counted from the start date up to but not including the end date. Same-day dates give zero, and an end date earlier than the start gives a negative number so you can see the direction. It uses plain calendar arithmetic with no time-zone or daylight-saving adjustment, which keeps the count identical wherever you are. The result is free, runs in your browser, and can be printed or saved. It is a planning count, not a legal or official calculation.

Assumptions
- Calendar dates are user-entered planning values, not official deadlines.
- Date-only arithmetic counts calendar days without local-midnight time-zone conversion.
- Same-day dates give zero. The interval excludes the end boundary. Negative results mean the end is earlier.
How the result is worked out
Both dates are read as calendar dates and anchored to noon UTC, then the difference is divided by the length of one day. Anchoring to noon means a clock change on either date cannot shift the count. The end boundary is excluded, so March 15 to March 16 is one day.
A realistic example
You moved on March 15, 2026 and want to know how long you have been abroad on September 16, 2026. The calculator returns 185 days. If you had entered the dates the other way round it would return negative 185, showing the end came first.
What this calculator cannot decide
Whole calendar days only. No hours, business days, or holiday skipping. It does not decide residency, presence, or eligibility, and it does not know any official counting rule.

Common questions
Does the count include the end date?
No. The count runs from the start date up to but not including the end date, so March 15 to March 16 is one day. Add one if you want to include both days.
Why does it ignore time zones?
A day count is a calendar question. Converting to local midnight in two places would change the answer depending on where you are, so the calculator counts calendar dates only.
Can I count days before a date?
Yes. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the result is negative and the sign tells you the direction.
Is this a residency or tax calculation?
No. It counts calendar days between two dates you enter. It does not decide residency, presence, or any official rule.
